CCTV News (News Broadcast): On the afternoon of October 26th, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, President of the People’s Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, Xi Jinping, visited the National “13th Five-Year” Science and Technology Innovation Achievement Exhibition. He emphasized during his visit that during the “13th Five-Year” period, China’s scientific and technological undertakings have had accelerated development, and its innovative capabilities have significantly improved. Major scientific and technological achievements have been made in areas such as fundamental research, strategic high-tech, and livelihood technology. These achievements are the results of the concentrated efforts of the entire party, the whole country, and especially the vast number of scientific and technological workers under the strong leadership of the Central Committee Party. At present, China has embarked on a new journey of building a modernized socialist country, and scientific and technological innovation play an extremely important role in the overall development of the Party and the country. All scientific and technological workers throughout the country are asked to face the world’s cutting-edge technology, the economic frontlines, the major national needs, and the people’s well-being and health. They are also called to firmly have confidence in innovation, seize innovative opportunities, scale new heights in science and technology, solve development difficulties, consciously shoulder the glorious historical mission, accelerate the realization of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance, and make new and greater contributions to building a world-leading country in science and technology and actualizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Members of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Li Keqiang, Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji, and Han Zheng, as well as Vice President Wang Qishan, visited the exhibition respectively.

At around 3:45 pm, Xi Jinping arrived at the Beijing Exhibition Center and walked into the exhibition hall to visit the exhibition. The exhibition, themed “Innovation-Driven Development, Towards a Technologically Strong Nation,” is divided into 12 sections, including general prologue, a century in retrospect, basic research, high-tech, major projects, agricultural technology, and social development. Through over 1,300 physical exhibits and over 200 models, the exhibition focused on showcasing the major scientific and technological achievements made by the whole party and the whole country in implementing a series of major decisions and arrangements on scientific and technological innovation by the Central Committee Party with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core during the “13th Five-Year” period.

Facing the world’s cutting-edge technology, the exhibition focused on showcasing major breakthroughs in fundamental and cutting-edge technologies, such as the “Nine Chapters” quantum computing prototype, the second comprehensive scientific expedition to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, “Tianji” neuromorphic chips, and scientific devices such as spallation neutron sources and the “WISE EYE” satellite. Addressing the economic frontlines, the exhibition focused on a national platform for the open innovation of new generation artificial intelligence and domestically produced large-diameter shield tunneling machine “Jinghua No.1.” Meeting the challenges of major national needs, the exhibition focused on showcasing the model of China’s space station, Mars rover, “Chang’e 5,” “Striver” fully manned deep-sea submersible, integrated circuit equipment, the world’s first fourth-generation nuclear power high-temperature gas-cooled demonstration reactor, and “Guohe No.1” nuclear power unit, etc. These are vital national assets. Addressing the people’s well-being and health, the exhibition focused on showcasing the integrated whole-body positron emission/magnetic resonance imaging equipment, unmanned plant factory rice breeding accelerator, and the latest achievements of “Science and Technology for Epidemic Prevention” and “Science and Technology for the Winter Olympics”. Each exhibit and model vividly demonstrated the significant progress and outstanding achievements made in China’s scientific and technological innovation during the “13th Five-Year” period. Xi Jinping and other leaders carefully observed and listened to the explanations from the staff.
